In 2025, as part of the scientific collaboration between the Department of “Study and Publication of Historical Documents” at the Abu Rayhan Beruni Institute of Oriental Studies and M. Kozybayev North Kazakhstan University, joint research projects are underway to study historical documents related to the Kazakh Khanate. The research is led by Professor Z.K. Kartova, who heads the project “Textological Study and Source Analysis of Narrative Documents of the Rulers of the Kazakh Khanate in the 15th–18th Centuries.” Scholars are conducting textological and source-based analyses of historical documents from the rulers of the Kazakh Khanate, dating from the 15th to the 18th centuries. In 2025, the team is concentrating on examining the activities of the Khan’s royal chancery, as well as official correspondence and legislative acts issued on behalf of the Kazakh khans. Senior researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies, Doctor of Historical Sciences, and Professor U.A. Sultonov is actively involved in the project, studying the operation of the khan’s chancery and the yarlyks (decrees) issued on behalf of Tauke Khan and Tursun-Muhammad Khan.
It should be noted that in 2024, a 301-page catalog titled “Catalog of Letters and Documents of the Kazakh Rulers of the 15th–18th Centuries (Textological Analysis)” was published as part of the project. In 2025, a collective monograph titled “Narrative Documents of the Rulers of the Kazakh Khanate of the 15th–18th Centuries: Study and Interpretation” is scheduled for publication.
The research has been ongoing from 2023 to 2025, relying on written sources preserved in archives and collections across Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, China, and Turkey. The project is funded by the Committee of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan (grant No. AR19676930 “Textological Study and Source Analysis of Narrative Documents of the Rulers of the Kazakh Khanate of the 15th–18th Centuries”).

  

 
 
On 27-October 2025-year, tourists who came to trip our country from Sultanate Oman have visited to al-Biruni institute of oriental studies, Uzbekistan Academy of sciences. Guests were welcomed by Deputy director for scientific affairs of the Institute Surayyo Karimova, Senior researcher of the Institute Nemat Jabborov, the specialist of the department of International relations Umid Rakhmanov. The guests were informed and introduced about the scientific activities of the institute, the research departments of the Institute and the publications of the Institute staff.
After that, guests went to the meeting room and watched video footage of the opening ceremony of the Institute building and the construction process. After that, the Guests were shown a restoration and repairing Laboratory and Scanning room of the Institute and given information on the construction of a new building. The guests were greatly thanked for the warm reception and noted that the activities, the new building and scientific publications of the Institute left them a huge impression.










On October 16-17, 2025, an international symposium dedicated to the great encyclopedist scholar Abu Rayhan Biruni was held at the initiative of Biruni University in Istanbul, Turkey, and the Al-Biruni Institute of Oriental Studies, Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences. The event was dedicated to the scientific method, philosophy and incomparable contribution to the development of world civilization of Abu Rayhan Biruni, one of the greatest scientists in human history, a man of encyclopedic knowledge.
At the opening ceremony it was delivered speeches by the Rector of Biruni University, Prof. Adnan Yuksel, the Chairman of the organizing committee, Prof. Adnan O'merusta oglu, the Head of the Istanbul International Center for Cultural Studies, Prof. Bekir Karliga, the Deputy chairman of the Turkish Language Committee, Prof. Harun Shohin, the Vice-president of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, Prof. Bahrom Abduhalimov and the Vice-rector of the Uzbekistan University of Journalism and Mass Communications, Prof. Sanjarbek Rashidov.
Eight scientific sessions were organized within the framework of the symposium. In the first session, Prof. Stephen Frederick Starr, Prof. Jan Peter Hogendijk, Prof. Bekir Karliga, and Prof. Bahrom Abduhalimov analyzed Biruni's scientific legacy and his theoretical views in various fields.
The second session was dedicated to the topics of culture and civilization, and professors Bakhtiyor Karimov, Kemal Ataman, and Ma'rifat Hamdamova participated with lectures on Beruni's scientific contribution to the modern concept of civilization.
In the next sessions, lectures were given on philosophy, sociology, scientific ethics, history, astronomy, mathematics, medicine, and source studies.
Prof. Surayyo Karimova's lecture that "Did Biruni practice practical medicine?" and her solutions aroused interest among many participants.
A special highlight was the special session dedicated to "Biruni's Manuscripts", who are Uzbek scholars Assoc. Prof. Salimakhon Eshonova, Assoc. Prof. Fakhriddin Ibragimov, Assoc. Prof. Akbar Nurmatov, and Botirjon Abdullaev presented manuscript copies of Biruni's works and factual information about their scientific significance.
Following the symposium, an agreement was reached between Istanbul Biruni University and the Al- Biruni Institute of Oriental Studies, Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences to establish long-term cooperation, conduct in-depth study of Biruni's scientific heritage and conduct research on an international scale.
The event marked the beginning of a new phase of cooperation between the scientific institutions of the two countries and laid a solid foundation for future international scientific programs aimed at further studying the legacy of Biruni.



On September 12, 2025, a scientific seminar for specialists in the field of source studies and textual criticism in the field of manuscript study was held at the al-Biruni Institute of Oriental Studies, Uzbekistan Academy of Sciences. The seminar was attended by the Director of the Manuscript Research Center at the Sultan Ahmad Waqf of the Republic of Turkey, Mahmud Misri, as well as such prominent researchers as Faisal al-Khafayan, Ayman Fuad Sayyid, Bashshar Awwad Maruf and Iyad at-Tabba. During the event, invited scientists presented reports on current topics of their research activities. In particular, Professor Iyad at-Tabba presented a report entitled “A Critical Study of Texts Written in the Genres of Sira and Shama’il”. In turn, Professor Ayman Fuad Sayyid presented two reports: “Principles of Critical Publication of Historical Texts” and “Methods of Reconstructing Lost Historical Works.” After the presentations, the participants of the seminar, employees of the Institute, asked the speakers questions of interest to them and expressed their thoughts regarding the reports they had heard. The seminar was held at a high scientific level and turned out to be very productive for both the audience and the invited researchers.










On May 01, 2025, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Sultanate of Oman to Uzbekistan Ms. Jabr Nasir al-Busaidi and Dean of Sultan Qaboos University Dr. Al-Mukhtar bin Saif al-Abri and Director of the Oman think tank of Sultan Qaboos University Prof. Ahmed bin Hamad Al-Rabaani have visited to al-Biruni institute of oriental studies, Uzbekistan academy of sciences.
The guests were welcomed by the director of the Institute Prof. B. Abduhalimov. The guests were informed about the scientific activity of the Institute, research departments of the institute and books which published by the employees of the Institute.
After that, the guests were shown the restoration, scanning departments and the reading room of the Institute and were given information on the construction of the new building. The guests greatly thanked for the warm reception and noted that the activities and scientific publications of the Institute left them a huge impression.
